“Essential oils are the soul’s medicine.”
~Unknown
Oils have been used for centuries by many cultures for emotional, physical and
energetic healing. Of course, there was a lot of anointing that took place throughout
the Bible that involved oils, and of course the Egyptians.
There are seven sacred oils specifically used for spiritual healing, as well. Each of
these oils symbolize the distinctive characteristics of healing, protection, love, and
divine spiritual union. I want to use this blog to briefly discuss them just in case
anyone has an urge to use them one day.
I have dabbled in essential oils myself over the years and have found that they have
healing properties, for the skin, circulation, nervous system, air cleansing, etc. I am not
an expert in essential oils by any means, but I find their uses are multifunctional and
practical for spiritual rituals, protection and honestly, they smell doggone good. In
learning about oils, I have also found that they might need to be diluted prior to use. I
tried Frankincense once on my forehead and you would have thought I had begun an
exorcism! My whole forehead turned bright red, felt like it was on fire and blistered,
too. I share this with you so if you are going to apply an oil, make sure you educate
yourself on the possible reactions as well. They are potent and powerful agents, but
most folks do not recognize this in them.
The following seven sacred oils have been used across cultures for thousands of years
in rituals, meditation, healing, and spiritual growth. They are valued for their ability
to calm the mind, balance emotions, and enhance spiritual awareness.
Here is the list and what they might be used for:
Frankincense – Symbolizes purification, divine connection, and inner peace.
Traditionally used in meditation and prayer, it helps release negative energy and
promotes mental clarity. You will recall from the Bible that Frankincense was one of the
oils that the Magi brought as a gift for the infant Jesus. I love this oil, but it is not for
me!
Myrrh – Represents healing, protection, and sacrifice. Historically used for anointing
kings and in embalming, it is associated with spiritual renewal and safeguarding the
soul. This one being another gift from the Magi and used in anointing Jesus’ body after
death.
Cedarwood – Associated with grounding, stability, and spiritual connection. It is
believed to ward off negative energies and enhance resilience. Very good to place
actual cedar in rooms that you feel a heaviness or darkness residing. A cotton ball with
some fragrance in the four corners of the room. I also use Rosemary plants for the
same purpose. If you can place rosemary at your front and back door, it is most
cleansing.
Pine – Embodies renewal, cleansing, and endurance. Often used for energy
purification and overcoming adversity. Great to use for negativity in the environment or
hauntings.
Rose – Signifies love, compassion, and emotional healing. It opens the heart, supports
forgiveness, and nurtures self-love. On a personal note, for my husband’s wedding
gift, I bought a handmade rosewood rosary immersed in rose oil for him. 35 years later
it still smells of roses!
Jasmine – Enhances joy, spiritual experiences, and romantic energy. It uplifts the spirit
and encourages emotional openness. Ahhh…the smell of jasmine. Part of my yard
fence is covered in jasmine vine, and I cannot wait every year for the flowers to bloom.
The scent is pure heaven and carries its joy in the breeze to others! Just lovely!
Sandalwood – Promotes meditation, higher consciousness, and calmness. It is used
to elevate awareness and deepen spiritual practices. I use sandalwood sometimes as
incense and in an oil burner during my readings and it does assist me in connecting
with spirit.
I hope that this summary of the sacred oils helps you understand their use and know
that they carry profound spiritual significance, blending ancient wisdom with modern
practices. Each oil offers a unique pathway for healing, making them powerful tools for
personal transformation and spiritual enrichment. Perhaps this blog will spark an
interest in using and learning more about the essential oils.
Sending Good Energy,
