Look out! The holidays are on the way and if you are not careful, they could drag you
down a spiritual road that is dark and murky, instead of happy and perky!
Yes, with the holidays comes sadness for many, anger for some, exposure to
dysfunctional family settings and a whole assortment of feelings that don’t meet those
holiday expectations that you have every year! What a letdown, right?!
So, what is one left to do? How can you deal with these emotions and dysfunctional
situations? Everyone has their own ‘go to’ holiday helpers guide. Some ‘go to’ the
alcohol, some to the sedatives, others feign illnesses and do not attend, and some
overeat and the list goes on. However, these are my own personal spiritual tips for
surviving the stressful holiday moments and creating good memories instead….at least
when you are able!
Tip #1: Don’t expect anything. Nadda. It is as simple as that. When we build up events
in our minds and replay what we think might happen or should happen, we are bound to
be met with disappointment. Go into the holidays with an open mind and heart. Just be
present in the moment…neither the past nor the future matter. Just right now.
Tip #2: Pray and/or meditate daily. Start taking those 10 or 30 minutes to devote your
mind to self-care. That is your primary focus, self-care, not self-indulgence. Be kind to
yourself. Ask God/Creator for help moving through the holidays. Talk with your angels,
guides and loved ones. Rest your mind and allow it to regain balance and composure
in the face of holiday challenges that you may be exposed to.
Tip #3: Have an ample amount of sea salt to soak in and sage to do energy cleansing.
Keep your environment free from negativity as much as possible and sage, sage, then
sage some more!! Light candles and incense setting the ambiance for relaxation. And
do not carry on conversations with any Grinches!
Tip #4: Gift your community. There are plenty of seasonal charitable events that you
can participate in that open your heart chakra. Or just gift a neighbor or two by baking
cookies or a holiday pie. It is a win-win. You feel good giving, and the other party
enjoys your efforts. The universe profits overall from your acts of kindness making the
world a better place.
Tip #5: If you are open to it, there is nothing better than a good Reiki healing session
each week, or perhaps you prefer acupressure or acupuncture. Whatever mode you
choose, if you can, make it routine and feel the weight of the world drop off of your
energy field.
Tip #6: Don’t allow others to dictate what you need to do during the holidays. You make
your own decisions and choices. If you do not wish to attend a party, then do not go.
Remember, this is your life and no one else’s. Choose holiday freedom for yourself and
just “do you”.
Tip #7: Keep your diet as clean as you can. Everything that you ingest plays a part in
your energy well-being. Remember, you are a spiritual being having a temporary
experience in a body.
Tip #8: Express love and goodwill to everyone. And I mean, EVERYONE! Only takes a
few seconds. You can do this internally or externally, but each time you do you are
concentrating less on your issues and holiday problems and spreading “holiday fuel” to
others, while accelerating yours. This changes their energy, while giving you more
strength to better handle holiday challenges. Ta-da!
Tip #9: Give yourself one nice gift each day. Doesn’t have to be purchased…it is as
easy a self-compliment. Just do not forget yourself, my friend!
Tip #10: Laugh as often as you can and wherever you are able. Laughter lowers your
blood pressure and is a great way to vent feelings. Have you seen someone laugh and
cry at the same time? Or someone laughing until they cry? Laugh for no reason as it is
still effective. Laughter is great medicine!
I hope some of these tips resonate with you, and you take the time to implement them
into your holiday schedule. Holidays are not meant to be dark and murky. I have had a
few of those myself over the years but know this…..You have freedom of choice. You
have the freedom to seek counseling or healthcare advice from the medical community
to help you. God gives you free will. You have the freedom to simply not participate in
holiday events. It is not sinful. Remember, you are God’s child and what you decide is
between the two of you. Love and goodwill is truly a practice to offer each day of the
year! So, if you choose to celebrate, please do so with self-love, self-care and good
choices. I hope they are happy and perky instead.
