HERE COMES THE LOVE
Tina Turner, RIP, was a wonderful entertainer. I don’t know where she got her energy, but that
girl could dance! One of her songs though was not a song to dance to….it was pensive and
thoughtful. In May of 1984, “What’s Love Got to Do with It” was her biggest selling single. It hit
#1 as she became the oldest female singer, singing a solo in the hot 100 list in USA, and #3 in
the UK.
The words were ones coming from pain in relationships and vulnerability on a deep level.
“Who needs a heart, when a heart can be broken?” “What’s love but a secondhand emotion.”
Such a profound and moving song that leaves you to delve into your own perception of love
and feelings in your personal relationships. It leaves a person staring into their drink, sitting
alone at a bar and hoping that some answer floats up to the top of the glass. You get the
picture.
My question is why would such a sad and thought-provoking song about heartache reach
number one? And my answer is, because everyone has faced heartache in their relationships
and it stays with you. At least until you resolve it through forgiveness and acceptance that life
offers lessons to all of us.
However, the lesson should not be that I am weary, wary and cautious about exposing myself
to love because I never want to feel that pain again. The lesson is love more. Give more love.
Not to the person who has hurt you, but to yourself and others. You can love someone who
hurt you, but just not like their actions. Nor do you have to expose yourself to those actions
repeatedly.
You see we are here to love and to do this we must drop the cloak of pain that we choose to
wear and forgive the perpetrator who tried to steal your emotional power. Your forgiveness
takes that component out of the relationship so you can move on. They can too, but often they
have not learned this lesson. They get stuck, like their feet are in fresh tar, and there they stay
until they can figure out ‘love’.
February embraces the love theme in all relationships. It is a very good thing to express love to
yourself, to others, to strangers, to trees, animals, plants and the list rolls on. Take the time to
love even the moment that you are “in”. Let everyone and everything be your Valentine! Love
is not just romance and chocolates, or sexual activity. It is you. When you radiate love, you are
radiating God’s light, and the more love, the brighter it gets.
I love all of you. I don’t have to know you directly because we are all connected. What you do
to one, you do to all. I love that you are reading this blog. I know it will make your day brighter
and that just creates more love in the world.
When you get down to it, “What’s love got to do with it?” The answer is, “Everything”.
Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you!
Love and Blessings,
